We were looking for a place to have an early lunch close to the IFC Center where we were going to see the documentary "City of Ghosts" about the improvised journalists of Raqa is Being Slaughtered Silently (eye opening by the way), when we found White Oak Tavern on Waverly Place. Nice place, fairly big with a bar in a sort of U shape in the middle with an impressive collection of alcohol, especially whiskey. I love the rustic feel of the place that gives the impression you stepped back in time, with old objects and photos on the shelves.

Food wise, they serve an all American fair. We started off with a banana bread, served with butter, that was delicious. However, beware that there are nuts in it, information that they may want to provide on their menu.

I should also mention the chocolate muffins they bring to each table: light and chocolatey.

For her entree, Jodi got the chopped salad that was composed of romaine, cucumber, tomato, carrot, haricot verts, kalamata olives, avocado, feta and a tahini dressing.

On my side, I ordered the bacon cheese burger. Made with a Pat Lafrieda patty, cheddar, a thick cut of bacon, pickled red onions and a chipotle aioli, it looked beautiful and the first bite was divine. I ordered it medium-rare and it was perfect, so juicy, with the nice smokey taste of the bacon. I really liked the extra bite that the red onions gave, adding a bit of acidity as they were pickled.

That was succulent and I definitely recommend White Oak Tavern for their burger. Would I go back? Definitely! I already saw few dishes on their menu that I would like to try.
